WRITER’S BAG: PRADA SAFFIANO LUX DOUBLE-ZIP TOTE

prada bn1786tRight before I headed out to Texas to cover the editorial for a large medical conference, I decided it was time to retire my cute, skateboarding sticker-bombed, minty lime green Tumi computer bag, and start carrying something a bit more roomy, professional/mature, and styled out. I knew I needed a bag that would fit my 13″ Macbook Air, and something that would be easy to travel with. Honestly, I didn’t shop around too much, as soon as I confirmed that the Prada Saffiano Lux Double-Zip tote was wide enough for my laptop, I decided to pull the $2500* trigger.

Well, when the buttons on the side of the bag are fastened, it is just barely wide enough for my 13″ Macbook Air, but it does fit without making slipping the computer in or pulling it out difficult or annoying. I also knew that I wanted a structured bag with a strap, and the tote seems to be holding its shape rather well. I did purchase a base shaper on eBay to prevent the bottom from sagging or wearing out. The bag has two zippered compartments, which I rarely use. I personally don’t carry too many things in the bag, partly because I don’t need to and also because it looks like it wouldn’t handle the stress too well.

what's in my prada saffiano toteWhat’s in my bag: 13″ Macbook Air, Prada Saffiano wallet, Maybelline Electric Fuchsia lipstick (see it on me here), Parker pen, Beats Solo headphones, Papyrus journal, iPhone 5s, L’Occitane shea buttter hand cream, keys. Not pictured is my pack of grape-flavored Hi Chew candy because I ate them all while snapping these pics. And yes, the loaded bag gets pretty heavy.

pradasaffianoluxtoteThis bag is the large size with strap, BN1786T. It was easy to travel with and easily fit under the seat in front of me during the flight. I did refer to the thorough review by the lovely extrapetite before deciding to purchase mine in new condition (with confidence of authenticity) on eBay for *$1800 to $1900.

I’ve heard a few horror stories about this bag in terms of poor quality control and low durability. I’ve been taking care of mine (eg, avoiding setting on ground, squishing, or overloading) and so far it’s holding up well.

Let me know if you’ve had any issues with this bag, or if you’ve got any care tips!

So what is the width of the bag? Is it the 35cm one? And it does fit a 13 inch macbook air (even if it’s snug lol)?
